AL BARUCH
LEGENDARY DISNEY ANIMATOR
CONCEPT ARTIST FOR LADY & THE TRAMP AND PETER PAN
PLUS: ANIMATOR ON MIGHTY MOUSE, CASPER: THE FRIENDLY GHOST & MANY MORE!
The Disney films Peter Pan and Lady and the Tramp are part of American pop
culture history, and so are the cartoonists who brought them to life. Al
Baruch was one of the animators who helped create these landmark films.

After graduating from Pratt Institute in New York City, Baruch went straight to
Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, Calif. At first he was an in-betweener, an
artist who draws the 527 cels required to create 27 seconds of film.
Eventually he was promoted to character-developer. For Lady and the Tramp
he developed Jock the Scottish terrier and Trusty the English bloodhound.
For Peter Pan he developed Captain Hook and The Crocodile.

After leaving Disney, the artist went to New York and in 1961 signed on with
Terrytoons, then a division of CBS, as a design cartoonist and animator on
characters such as Mighty Mouse. Later in life, Baruch became a teacher
and the head animator at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y.

When one mentions the legends that have shaped the history of the comics industry, rest assured that high on that list will be the name of Dick Giordano.
Giordano has been active in the comics field since 1951 and credits his major artistic influences as Stan Drake, Alex Raymond and Hal Foster.
Dick Giordano has worked his pencil and ink magic for a variety of publishers including Charlton Comics, DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Dell,
American Comics, Valiant, Treasure Chest and Junior Life.  In addition to his considerable freelance contributions, Giordano acted as Editor-In-Chief for
Charlton Comics, during which he oversaw the creation of their most memorable characters including such classics as The Blue Beetle and Captain Atom.
As Executive Editorial Director of DC Comics, Dick was the guiding force behind such award-winning series as Alan Moore’s WATCHMEN,
Frank Miller’s DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and many, many more revolutionary concepts.  His creative vision at DC Comics resulted in raising the bar for
creativity throughout the entire comics industry. In recent years, Dick Giordano, along with creative partners Bob Layton and David Michelinie,
formed FUTURE ENTERTAINMENT, a multi-media company. Most recently, Dick completed the art for a graphic adaptation of the classic, Moby Dick as well
as his literary contributions to a biography of his fascinating career as told by author Michael Eury. This entertaining look at this legend, who has shaped the
history of the comics industry, is currently available from The Two Morrows publishing company.

Frank Brunner broke into comics as a horror writer-artist for the black-and-white comics magazines Web of Horror, Creepy, Eerie and Vampirella. His best-known
color-comics work is his Marvel Comics collaboration with writer Steve Engelhart on the supernatural hero Doctor Strange in Marvel Premiere from 1972 to 1973,
and in Doctor Strange vol. 2, in 1974. Other Marvel credits include the anthologies Chamber of Chills, Haunt of Horror, and Unknown Worlds of Science Fiction; the
supernatural series Tomb of Dracula; the swamp-monster series Man-Thing; and the science fiction series Silver Surfer.

Also for Marvel, Brunner adapted Robert E. Howard's sword-and-sorcery pulp fiction hero Conan the Barbarian in the 42-page story "The Scarlet Citadel", and
drew many covers for the similar series Red Sonja and Savage Sword of Conan. Brunner and novelist Michael Moorcock collaborated on a comics adaptation of
Moorcock's sword-and-sorcery hero Elric in Heavy Metal magazine. It was reprinted in publisher Mike Friedrich's Star Reach Greatest Hits.

Brunner briefly returned to comics in the mid-1980s as artist on the First Comics title Warp!, based on the science-fiction play that ran briefly on Broadway in the
1970s. He then wrote and drew the graphic novel The Seven Samuroid (1984), a science-fiction takeoff of the movie classic Seven Samurai. Brunner then moved
to Hollywood and began a career in movie and television animation, working on projects for Hanna-Barbera (Jonny Quest), Walt Disney Imagineering
(Euro Tomorrowland movie), Warner Bros. (preproduction Batman design) and DreamWorks (Invasion USA).
He was the head of character design for the Fox animated series X-Men.
