Florida Supercon is proud to welcome Carlos Blanchard as our NEW Director of Costuming and Cosplay. This is a newly created position at Florida Supercon, replacing the previous position of Director of Cosplay and is meant to show our FSC's renewed focus in the costuming and cosplay community, with an emphasis on the art of costuming. Carlos has been coming up with dozens of amazing new ideas on how to grow the costume/cosplay element of the convention, and we're excited to see where his vision take us!
Carlos Blanchard is a veteran costumer, graphic designer, project manager. He is the founder of Rage Custom Creations, https://www.facebook.com/ragecustomcreations, has been a serious costumer and active participant in the community for well over a decade. He recently received worldwide attention for his Medieval Batman costume, which has been featured by MTV Geek, The Sun-Sentinel, IO9, Yahoo and dozens of other news organizations. In addition, he was the costume designer of the recent Mary Jane/Gwen Stacy Venom photo shoots that went viral (and caused a stir on Facebook), has gotten worldwide attention for his company Rage Custom Creations and has been the designer of multiple costumes worn by other costumers that have gone viral in recent months!
Carlos was hooked into the geek world at a very early age when his father took him to a drive in to see his first Godzilla movie. That was quickly followed by a love of Star Trek, Twilight Zone, Alien and Star Wars... ever since then he's been hooked in for life and has not looked back since.
Carlos describes his view of costuming: "My philosophy when it comes to creating a costume for myself or others, has always been, how would I dress/make the costume, if I were the actual character. It helps me personalize and re-in vision the character and make it fresh and more than often, unlike anything anyone has seen. The word “Canon” is an ugly word to me when it comes to making my costumes, but I never judge those who want to make theirs as exact as possible to whatever character they are portraying. Everyone has their own way of doing things, and I will always respect that. I’m just all about originality."
Carlos has been attending Florida Supercon since 2008 and been a part of our family since 2009 when he first came on board as a staff member. Keep an eye out for some exciting announcements about what Carlos and his team have planned for 2013 and beyond!
